Professor James Clark, from the University of Exeter, was one of our guest speaker at the conference. He talked about the Benedictine custom of medieval Iceland. He is Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Transfer and Professor of History at the University of Exeter. One of his published books is The Benedictines in the Middle Ages, published by Boydell in 2011. Professor James Clark is also a regular contributor to TV, Radio, News Media and online coverage of medieval, Reformation and early Renaissance themes. He has been a historical consultant for TV documentaries such as Tudor Monastery Farm for BBC TV and film dramas such as Starzz The White Queen.
Ráðstefnan Monastic studies in the North: New Approaches var haldin við Háskóla Íslands föstudaginn 14. apríl kl. 13:00-17:00 í stofu 101 í Lögbergi.
Hugvísindasvið og öndvegisverkefnið Samspil manns og náttúru stóðu að ráðstefnunni. Samspil manns og náttúru er þverfagleg rannsókn á Benediktínaklaustrum sem rekin voru á Íslandi á miðöldum. Meginmarkmiðið er að varpa ljósi á sambúð þeirra við náttúrulegt umhverfi sitt.
